Welcome to the Flashback Repository

Personal fan edits of films I own — family-safe cuts, taste-driven mixes, and quiet repairs to movies that still matter.

This is not a pirate archive. You must own a legal copy of each original before you play anything here. That is the same rule the fanedit community has used for years.

Copyrighted feature files are not in the git repos. They live on IPFS. This site holds the catalog (notes, pointers, CIDs). Clients (Flashback app / some browsers) download masters directly from the IPFS network — Relay servers do not keep a hot movie cache. Details: Ownership policy.

Now showing (carousel) is only what was manually uploaded for immediate play on the host. The full library below is the IPFS catalog; titles need a seeded peer to download.

How to use it

  1. Confirm ownership on the welcome screen (once per browser).
  2. Computer: one-time VLC setup — see Setup for playback. Phone/tablet / Fire TV: install the Flashback App.
  3. Pick a title from the library below — each page explains what changed.
  4. Reaffirm for that film the first time you open it (one checkbox; remembered forever on this device).
  5. Play / download via IPFS (app or swarm), or use a Now showing title when listed.

Media rides thin IPFS: if a file is not on the network yet, it needs to be seeded — the hash is known; the bytes just are not available from any peer yet.

Why this exists: it is not only about better cuts. It is about whether we are allowed to improve the films we own and share those cuts with friends. Read the full motivation →

Working on

  • Widescreen finish for The Pentagon Papers
  • Dual English + citation subtitles on recent Debugged / DeAnna’d mixes
  • Seams QC and catalog polish across the library

FanMixes

2012 (2009) — Open The GatesA breath-of-fresh-air cut of Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic: the blended family actually gets along, unnecessary death spectacle is trimmed, and Russophobic “cheer the oligarch’s demise” beats are pulled so Gordon, Tamara, and Yuri stay characters in the story instead of sacrifinow showingAlien Resurrection (1997) — UnJossedA leaner *Alien Resurrection* that cuts Whedon’s creep-and-quip fingerprints and the newborn rampage, so the genetic-crossover premise stays mysterious and the Betty crew can play as people — not as a joke writer’s mouthpieces. **UnJossed** (play on *unjust*). Slogan: **Removing now showingAmerican Psycho (2000) — Psychosomatic*American Psycho* is a brilliant movie — unlike the original *Psycho*, or *The Texas Chain Saw Massacre*, or the other classic horror titles people stack it next to. This one stands out. Slogan: **This confession has meant nothing.**now showingBoogie Nights (1997) — No LookoutA single-block cut of PTA’s *Boogie Nights* that skips the late-film collapse from the office whip-pan through On the Lookout and the donut-shop stick-up, then resumes on the film’s own fade into the Rahad-planning scene.coming soonCongo (1995) — Adult SupervisionA leaner *Congo* that strips Dr. Peter Elliot’s childish / incel-adjacent berating of ex-CIA Karen Ross so the adventure can lead — and trims Travis/Captain Wanta screaming, some gore, plus a travel plot hole by moving the Bob Driscoll encounter forward.now showingContact (1997) — No AlphasA cut of *Contact* that strips obnoxious alpha-male private beats so Ellie’s story is the signal, the machine, and the cosmos — not their insecurities.wipFear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) — No North StarA single-scene cut that removes the North Star Coffee Lounge waitress/knife sequence and resumes on the Red Shark run to the airport.coming soonFinal Fantasy (2001) — The Phantom Menace*Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within* — a minimalist re-cut that strips distracting acting and excess human-behavior beats, shortens gore, and restores a more Final Fantasy–like title placement — with the rare Japanese track and remix soundtrack upgrades. Slogan: **Spiritual Editionow showingFried Green Tomatoes (1991) — No Frank BennettRemoves Frank Bennett as a face, voice, and name-driven plot thread so the Idgie / Ruth / Ninny / Evelyn emotional spine can lead.coming soonMatrix Reloaded (2003) — UnlinkedA pacing-focused cut of *The Matrix Reloaded* that strips many Link establishment sequences plus a few early-movie wreckers (orgasm-brownie, kiss), so the story moves without the Tank-replacement hand-holding.coming soonMatrix Revolutions (2003) — UnlinkedA companion cut to Reloaded — Unlinked that trims many Link establishment sequences from *The Matrix Revolutions*.coming soonMission to Mars (2000) — Enhanced CitationsParadigm Threat [AU-062](https://paradigmthreat.net/influence/smithsonian/investigations/occult-icons-mountain-of-heaven-glitch-investigation.md).wipNinja Scroll (1993) — Minor DamageA leaner *Ninja Scroll* with songs from the Ninja Gaiden OST (Xbox). Reduces how women are portrayed as plot devices, removes the rape scenes, and dials back the blood — while keeping the core friendships and betrayals intact.now showingRiddick (2013) — UnjinxedA dialogue-trimmed *Riddick* that **Unjinxs** the merc chatter, kills the opening predator beat, and plays the Necromonger “wrong planet” flashback as a **linear prologue** so you know why he’s stranded before the desert hunt begins. Slogan: **Unjinxelating our Janx, one cringe anow showingSerenity (2005) — Unjossed EditionA family/kids cut of *Serenity*: strict on Reaver gore, keeps the action and core plot, and leaves favorite Whedon beats (including “leaf on the wind” and the final fight) alone unless they break tone after horror.coming soonSilent Hill (2006) — Nay Tomorrow EditionA watchable *Silent Hill* cut — less gore and exposition, more room for the mystery, with Silent Hill 1 music woven in.now showingSonic (2020) — DeSchwartzed EditionA watchable *Sonic the Hedgehog* (2020) cut: trim sitcom / post-production Sonic commentary, keep the plot, and leave Jim Carrey’s Robotnik almost untouched — the film’s real reason to watch. Slogan: **Less Ben, No Predictive Programming, More Carrey!**now showingSonic 2 (2022) — DeSchwartzed EditionA watchable *Sonic the Hedgehog 2* cut: trim sitcom / post-production Sonic commentary, keep the Master Emerald plot, and leave Jim Carrey’s Robotnik — especially the mushroom-planet open — almost untouched. Slogan: **Mushroom planet. Robotnik Arrives.**now showingSonic 3 (2024) — DeSchwartzed EditionA watchable *Sonic the Hedgehog 3* cut: trim sitcom / post-production cringe that ruins pacing, keep the Shadow plot, and leave Jim Carrey’s Robotnik almost untouched — the reason this trilogy was worth anticipating. Slogan: **Seriously, this was all about Jim Carrey, not Sonic.*now showingStar Trek: First Contact (1996) — No AhabA bridge-focused cut that skips Picard’s Captain Ahab / Moby-Dick meltdown and the stay-and-fight spiral so the Borg crisis stays tactical.wipTerminator 3 (2003) — Brass Monkey EditionT3 tries to be T1/T2 and keeps stepping on itself — shticky open, exposition that sounds like the characters read the script, and John Connor written as a pouty obstacle. This cut trims that clutter so the chase and the machines can carry the movie. Removes the **pygmy swarm** that kills the expedition (same “little creatures eating people” idea). Adventure, Anubis, and the finale stay.now showingThe Pentagon Papers (2003) — WidescreenSharper **16:9** presentation of the FX / Paramount TV movie. No story cuts. Some score beds are swapped for *Castlevania: Symphony of the Night* cues.now showingWar of the Worlds (1953) — No ClipA light trim of the 1953 *War of the Worlds* — short picture cuts only (~1 minute), not a rewrite of the classic.wipWar of the Worlds (2005) — Family Therapy EditionThis FanMix eliminates nearly all the toxic family behavior featured in the movie, so that WotW (2005) becomes a movie about aliens and not allusions to Spielberg's trouble raising his own children.wip
